The Winter Trial 2011

The Winter Trial 2011 has come to an end.
A great winner in both classes, snow on the right places, fantastic tests and a bunch of happy rallyists. It was an organisers dream to see that on the thursday morning no winners were decided. In the Club Category 6 crews stil had a chance. And in the Trial Category a serious contest between Van Lennep / Tully and Lamberigts / Denzler.

The new dates for the event in 2012 are January 28 - February 4  2012.

Live the legend, drive your dream

In early 1900 the very first really tough rally was organized by the Imperial Automobile Club of Austria. The event was named the Alpine Rally. Unpaved mountain roads formed an unparalleled test track for fledgling car manufacturers who wanted to prove to the public the abilities of their machines.
Now, 100 years later, the Winter Trial has become the most testing event on the calendar for driver and navigator, as well as the machinery. It goes without saying that challenging winter conditions have an important part to play and since the Winter Trial has gone east, each event has proved to be exactly what we want it to be: a tough and demanding challenge for man and machine.

The event has two categories: Trial and Club. The route for the Trial Category consists of six day legs as well as two evening loops which aim to sort out the men from the boys. The total route length is about 2250 kilometers.
The Club Category caters for those crews who prefer camaraderie in the warm hotels to the icy night time pistes and consists of the six day legs only. This class will drive some 1800 kilometers.
Nobody will question your intended level of participation - it is entirely up to you - but we have noticed that the “Club” competitors seem to smile more often!
The daily routes are divided into regularity sections, where the navigator plays a major role, and special tests on private tracks where the driver can really give the car its head.

Burning rubber, rattling snow chains, squeaking snow, icy test tracks, are just a few of the many ingredients that make the Winter Trial the toughest Winter event of its kind. Not for softies, but for diehards and brave contenders. The memories and the friends you’ll make will endure forever.

Experienced service crews will follow the rally to make sure that nobody gets stranded. They are there to get you going again when you are stuck, not to do your daily maintenance. A trailer with spare cars, for those who have to leave the sporting arena, but not the party, follows the event just in case…

The route

For now the route details will remain secret, but we can give away that the start will be in Germany and we will finish in the beautiful city of Karlovy Vary on the western edge of the Czech Republic. Our Winter Trial newsletter will update you about the recce progress.

The Winter Trial motto “the best available” also goes for the carefully selected hotels. But bear in mind that we also seek the best available rally routes, which are not always where the fairytale hotels can be found.

Entry to the Winter Trial is by invitation only. You may apply for an invitation to compete using the entry form. Within four weeks of us receiving your form, you will be notified whether your application has been accepted. It goes without saying that older cars are high on our preference list, along with anything out of the ordinary.
